I am basically an ROTK superfan

I am basically an ROTK superfan. I did a four-year BA in Sinology because I liked DW3 back in the day, I've been an ancient user on the kongming.net forums, and I played the hell out of every single ROTK game since 3. And honestly, I've long wondered what it would look like if an ROTK game was made by a company that's less, uh, 'challenged' in terms of original game design than Koei. This seems like a viable answer. It's more immersive and adds some very well thought-out elements to officer gameplay, which is my favorite part of these games. In terms of battles and duels, it also seems way less obsessed with Koei maths of "big number beat small number", so it certainly feels like you have a lot more agency as a player and the AI is less incompetent. Yeah, there is jank - especially with the localization - but it's only slightly jankier than the ROTK games. The graphics are a bit hit or miss as well. And of course there's the great caveat that you already kind of need to be a fan of these types of games for my recommendation to really apply. I can see new players who are interested in it having a hard time figuring out what's even going on, aside from the names. So I absolutely recommend this to everyone who, like me, has been disappointed with Koei's lack of actual improvements in game design and just wishes for a better officer-gameplay ROTK. This could very well be this, given a bit more love for the international audience.

The English translation is NOT ready for release

The English translation is NOT ready for release. The tutorial regularly highlights the incorrect area of the screen. The Commissions section is entirely untranslated. Many of the explanations of what something is or does do not make sense. I have limited playtime, but what I managed to see doesn't appear to live up to the game description. Combat card drawing concept seems to often give me a lot of 1-turn buffs but no attack card. You have to kill the same mob in combat several times, there's a number beside them to tell you how many times - why? Why not just increase their HP instead? I only purchased from one vendor but I saw no way to compare my equipment or inventory with what was being sold so I bought something that was worse than what I already had. The house/plot I bought first thing after being spawned in town disappeared and while I can travel there, I can't see it on the town map, and every time I enter it my table and bed are in a different location. I saw the tutorial guide on the world map so I travelled to him, only to watch him disappear from screen when I arrived and nothing else happened, so I had nothing to do but travel back to where I started from and waste game days in the process. There are a number of other issues I had as well, but the above was enough for me to request a refund. This game seems to offer a lot and I like the premise behind it, but it was just highly confusing and unplayable for me.
