I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me
I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. Fans of Adventure, Sim, Story will recognise the pieces, though Dave the Diver never quite assembles them. The idea (Dive by day, run a sushi empire by night.) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. Performance was acceptable, though the loop repeats itself well before the credits. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. Try before you buy.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. If Adventure, Sim, Story is your thing, Dave the Diver delivers it without much filler. The pitch — Dive by day, run a sushi empire by night. — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. Worth it, especially on sale.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Dave the Diver wears its Adventure, Sim, Story influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Dive by day, run a sushi empire by night.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
