Stardew Valley is the farming life sim that one person built — seasons, townsfolk, mines and a valley that quietly becomes home.
This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. Stardew Valley wears its Farming, Cozy, Sim influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (The definitive cozy farming sim, made by one person.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. The Farming, Cozy, Sim side of Stardew Valley is fine on paper, but the execution felt thin after the first few hours. The idea (The definitive cozy farming sim, made by one person.) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. Too many systems are introduced and then abandoned. The UI takes a little getting used to, but everything is where you expect it. Not for everyone, and not for me.
