good game but keep in mind: The developer undermined everyone working beneath him, claiming he was still a solo-dev, even though that was never the case. He threw the dev-team under the bus on multiple occasions, blaming them for every mistake HE has made. The main artist was offered below minimum wage to keep working on the game after release, claiming, "you're not a founder" and as such "the success of the game will probably never matter for your salary," despite having made most of the game's art for two years.
DO NOT GIVE THIS DEVELOPER YOUR MONEY, IF THIS GAME INTERESTS YOU, FIND AN ALTERNATIVE WAY TO PLAY IT. He has both abandoned the game and many of this its contributors uncredited and underpaid. Many features were promised that never came because of his own ego and unwillingness to collaborate. His desire to take the credit for the entire game has in turn destroyed the it. On startup, the game displays a splash screen of the dev informing you how hard he worked on this game, with no mention of anybody else. The game itself is reasonably fun, but gets unbelievably grindy and boring after a while. If you wanna play for the early game, you'll likely have a good time for a while. The game also has many bugs and missing QoL features that will never come. Most of my hours are from leaving the game on idly, you will likely get about 10-20 hours of actual gameplay. Overall a decent game but as previously mentioned, please find alternative ways to play that don't involve giving money to HopFrog. He has made enough money at the expense of his team and his players as it is.
Extremely unfortunate to see a game that had so much potential, end like this. After two years of promised multiplayer, it was cancelled by HopFrog, the lead dev, as he threw his entire team under the bus and blamed them for the lack of development. The main artist that drew most of the art for this game was offered to keep working on it for A LITTLE OVER MINIMUM WAGE AFTER ITS SUCCESS. Why? Because "you're not a founder" and "the success of the game will probably never matter for your salary." This was after ~2 years of work. Very scummy, HopFrog. Not to mention that HopFrog's incredible "solo-dev" journey was not at all a solo project. He was even going to give a talk at GDC 2020 about how he built Forager as a solo-dev.. Like how can you claim that you're a solo-dev, but also simultaneously blame your team (thought it was solo?) for the failure of multiplayer? There's some more shady things he's done like announcing the cancellation of multiplayer privately on his Patreon/Discord rather than on Steam or Twitter - so players won't even find out about it unless they specifically searched for it. The game had promise, but is now entirely abandoned with a horrible wrap up from HopFrog and his awful treatment of his team. Sad to see it go like this.
