I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. Fans of Action, Adventure, Multiplayer will recognise the pieces, though Zort never quite assembles them. The idea (Zort is an action, adventure, and horror game that can be played with up to 4) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Try before you buy.
It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Zort leans hard into Action, Adventure, Multiplayer, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. It helps that the premise (Zort is an action, adventure, and horror game that can be played with up to 4) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. I will be back for another run.
I bounced off it twice before finally giving up. Zort promises a lot with its Action, Adventure, Multiplayer setup, but the loop wore thin quickly. The idea (Zort is an action, adventure, and horror game that can be played with up to 4) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. It asks for a lot of grinding before the interesting parts show up. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Try before you buy.
