It's not that the game is bad, but it's also entirely linear

It's not that the game is bad, but it's also entirely linear. For a game about making choices, there aren't actually any real choices. Every plot point happens on que and in the exact same way every time. Almost every decision has a right and a wrong option, and assuming you have the resources, there are very few reasons to ever say no to a petitioner. My first time through the game, I wanted to play the "Good" king, and that went pretty well, but it also made it very clear that there were to be no "Bad" king optional playthrough. If you are bad, you are by definition not going to have the resources necessary to complete the game and you'll head for an early game-over. There are also a few set-piece army combat scenes in the game, who all feel really fun, until you replay one and realise you're once again on rails. You either win, or you lose, and unless you pick the most hair-brained options along the way, winning is a foregone conclusion in every case. In the end, "Yes, your grace" is fun for a single playthrough just to see the story, but know that your choices will only affect that story on an extremely surface level.

I'll keep it concise and short

I'll keep it concise and short. Pros: gorgeous pixel art, pretty good soundtrack, immersive story, the gameplay was fun for the most part. Cons: I only have one, and yet... it's the very thing that led me to give this game a negative review in the first place - as many other cases, the choices, in fact, DO NOT MATTER. You may change some things here and there ever so slightly, but the "canon events" stay fixed. There's no way to change anything that actually matters in the story - you CAN'T save X from being poisoned, despite being given a weird quick-time event of three choices as it happens, nor can you use the medicine in your inventory to even try. His son WILL turn out to be a sh*thead, no matter what you do to try and appease him. The battle WILL end the same way, no matter what you do. It's a fun game otherwise, but do not expect that you will be able to impact the story in a meaningful way, nor buy it at the full price - best to wait for sale.

Preface to say that the story in the game is great and really pulled me in

Preface to say that the story in the game is great and really pulled me in. I support the developer's vision and am impressed with the story that they create, but unfortunately I still have to give it a negative review. It is not (as others have pointed out) a true choose your own adventure or a true management sim, it is simply a story that has 1 path with a few minor quests that can be changed depending on choices and includes elements of management. If the game had been larger scale and allowed choosing different major decisions instead of being forced into them, then it would have been a great choose your own adventure style game with the included base management features. With that said, and with the content of the game as it is, I cannot recommend buying it at full price as it did not take me long to complete (3 hrs) and I feel no desire to play through again as I know that I can only change 1 or 2 minor things to get a "perfect" end, which does not interest me as I already know how the story will play out as a whole.
