About Salt and Sanctuary

A doomed sailor is shipwrecked on an uncharted island. In fog-shrouded valleys, where grinning, mossy corpses cling to rusted arms, shambling figures begin to stir. Beneath crumbling, salt-worn structures, labyrinthine passageways lead to unspeakable evil, long forgotten by man. Salt and Sanctuary seamlessly combines fast, brutal, and complex 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics. Discover, craft, and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items as you explore a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, desecrated monuments, and the fallen lords they once celebrated. From Ska Studios, the award-winning indie studio behind a long list of stylistic, visceral, and brutally executed action titles that includes The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, and Charlie Murder, comes Salt and Sanctuary, the studio’s most ambitious title to date.

Salt and Sanctuary is an amazing game

Salt and Sanctuary is an amazing game. It came very close to that feeling Dark Souls gave me. The level design is incredible and I loved the way all the areas would lead back into a previous area much like Dark Souls did. It has a great price tag and was very fun to achieve 100%. Please do yourself a favor and go buy this game!

This isn't gonna be a proper review

This isn't gonna be a proper review. I just wanna say good sh*t about this game. It's good sh*t. It takes everything good from Dark Souls and The Dishwasher and mashes them together in a blender, with a fair amount of originality thrown in. This is one of my favorite game purchases in a long while. Get this if you like the following: Amazing level design Dark fantasy art style A large variety of bosses A large variety of weapons/armor A large skill tree A touch of metroidvania Short cut p*rn Occasional punishing difficulty Responsive, rewarding combat Obscure but vaguely interesting story Now I'm gonna say something I rarely say right after I beat a game. I'm gonna go beat this sh*t again.

Instead of seeing YOU DIED, you'll see Obliterated

Instead of seeing YOU DIED, you'll see Obliterated. A lot. So if you like Dark Souls, you'll feel right at home. I don't like Dark Souls. I play DS3 once a year for a few days until I ragequit and uninstall. I've been stuck on Yhorm boss fight for two years. I don't like platformers. I'm old and my reflexes are long gone. I had to give up on Ori and Hollow Knight when I ran into a jump I couldn't pull off. Salt and Sanctuary combines both, so I should hate it. And yet by some luck I managed to choose a paladin as my first character, and went to town two handing a morning star. I died a lot to Sodden Knight, overleveled by grinding (which was surprisingly fun) and took him down in five hits. The next boss fight took a lot more hits, but I still managed to beat her without dying. Or dodging. Or parrying. So I'm unashamedly going to keep overleveling and hope I don't run into a jump I can't pull off. Edit: Guess what? Thanks to S&S I installed DS 3 again and finally beat Yhorm! Now I'm stuck on Aldrich. I also bought Elden Ring and am terrorizing Limgrave until my vigor is high enough to survive Liurnia. S&S is a shameless overleveler's gateway drug to FromSoft games.
