It has a bit of Hyper Light Drifter. A bit of Hotline Miami. A dash of Superhot. Sprinkle of Transistor. With a Nex Machina finishing. All cyberpunk gore. Cool game. And it's true, IGN reviewers don't know how to play games.

One of my best buys this year
Pros: - Great futuristic, dark and urban atmosphere (no tree or plant in the whole game) - Nice environmental lighting effects - Quick efficiënt conversations without much unneeded lore - Very fast paced - Very dynamic combat - You can reset skills at any time, even during combat, which helps to fight various encounters - A lot of (mini) bosses Neutral: - Not a very long game, you can finish it in say 7-12 hours - Levels are mostly lineair Cons: - Im an old dude with mouse and keyboard, and for some bosses you need very fast keyboard skills or a controller. I found some bosses very hard even on Easy setting. Also the default keyboard settings are very clumsy for such fast action All in all a good and challenging game, though a bit less for slow old people like me ;)

RUINER is a 5-7 hour battle through a stylistically gorgeous, but small, cityscape. Most of the game takes place in moody, industrial interiors, often locking you into an area whilst you fight off enemies before progressing. It can be frustratingly difficult at times, but there's a rythm and a good sense of feedback and satisfaction to the combat. It's a shame there aren't more visually distinct areas like the city hub, it feels at times like RUINER is showing you a world that you never get to experience. Overall, I'd recommend it, for people who enjoy top down brawlers. Don't expect Cyberpunk 2077, it's a humble game with a simple goal -- KILL BOSS.
