I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Dead Cells leans hard into Roguelike, Platformer, Action, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. On paper it is Rogue-lite platforming with unbeatable game-feel., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.

I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me
I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. Dead Cells promises a lot with its Roguelike, Platformer, Action setup, but the loop wore thin quickly. It advertises Rogue-lite platforming with unbeatable game-feel.; what you get is a thinner version of that. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Wait for a deep sale.
