A friend recommended it and I owe them one. RimWorld leans hard into Sim, Story, Strategy, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — The story-generator colony sim you will lose months to. — is delivered without too much filler. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.

Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. RimWorld wears its Sim, Story, Strategy influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. On paper it is The story-generator colony sim you will lose months to., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. I will be back for another run.
