7/10 shooter from the late PS3 era when everyone wanted to make their games less linear. id's attempt with RAGE was a bit disappointing because the studio was already famous for pushing technical boundaries on PC and delivering genre leading FPS. RAGE was and is just fine, due to mediocre graphics, static levels, and lackluster gunplay with spongy enemies. On the good side it presents an interesting world with competent level design and adds simple but fun driving action to the mix. The game mostly goes like this: You have a short and mildly interesting talk with some NPC in town about your next mission -> drive one minute through the wasteland to your destination, two minutes if you bother to fight enemy cars -> 10 to 20 minutes of linear shooter gameplay -> drive back to town for the next mission. Rinse and repeat until it's done.
Its a fun little game with a decent amount of content and basically runs on a toaster so i would recommend it, i suggest turning on the console commands to increase the FOV
I don't know how you can make a 10+ hour game where I can come out of it not remembering a single thing from it but somehow this game did that. If I wanted a fun wasteland shooter, I'd go play borderlands for it's great gameplay and fun loot and build systems, If I wanted a wasteland game with cars, I'd go play Mad Max, If I wanted a desolate wasteland game with an interesting story, I'd go play Fallout, If I wanted a wasteland game with scary stuff like mutants or zombies, I'd go play Metro, there is nothing in this game that that makes it stand out in any sort of way. Considering how good just about everything else has been over the years by ID Software, I honestly don't know how you make a game this devoid of being anything. At least the gunplays kinda fun at points, but that's kinda the bare minimum for an ID Software shooter.
