Pizza Tower is a fast paced 2D platformer, with an emphasis on movement, exploration and score attack. Featuring highly stylized pixel art inspired by the cartoons from the '90s, and a highly energetic soundtrack. Peppino Spaghetti, a surprisingly agile and powerful fat balding italian, is on a mission to destroy the titular Pizza Tower in order to save his restaurant from annihilation. Follow him through his rampage across the many wacky floors of the tower, collecting toppings and beating up monsters! PLAY as Peppino Spaghetti, the supersonic italian middle-aged man! And sometimes Gustavo. EXPLORE up to 5 floors leading to many levels, discover all of their secrets! FIGHT some monsters and other weirdos! DESTROY everything in your path, including those stupid rats. BECOME the Pizza Tower! Weird crazy characters and animations! . An insanely energetic soundtrack! . An unusual platformer formula! . Play like you want! Go for the highest score or explore at your own pace!. .
Fans do what Nintendont. After 5 long public years of trial, error and experimentation from the devs, It's finally here, and having beaten the game twice and getting P rank on all of the first floor levels, I can say this game more than lived up to my expectations. If you've heard about this game before, you've probably heard it be compared to the Wario Land games, and that's a pretty big deal for some since Wario has been absent from platforming games since Wario Land: Shake it 2008. For a bit of context, a big part of what really made the Wario Land games click was their emphasis on controlling a complex 2D character in simple, exploration based environments designed to let the player let loose with their moves. Pizza Tower not only understands what made these games good but expands on it and carves out it's own identity due it it's increased emphasis on movement and score attack mechanics. Peppino has a dizzying amount of moves that can at first make him feel sloppy and bloated to play, but his moveset is designed to be chained together and the levels allow you to make the most of his moveset. It makes it very cathartic to master Peppino and the levels you have him fly through. This is all coupled with an absolute back to back banger OST, top notch visual presentation, and a fantastic cast of characters making for a game I'll be replaying again and again for years.
Pizza Tower is a game I highly recommend. Not because it's the best platformer I've played in years. Not because the soundtrack slaps harder than an overtuned spanking machine. (Seriously, it's probably my favorite since Deltarune & Undertale.) Not because of the incredible art style. Not even because of the fact that this game deserves to succeed because of the sheer effort and dedication shown by the development crew. I recommend Pizza Tower because of the character arc, even though all of the preceding points are completely valid reasons to recommend it. Peppino is not a greedy treasure hunter like Wario. He is not a successful and heroic plumber like Mario. He is not.. uh, Luigi. Peppino is a small business owner being antagonized by a bigger, stronger competitor he can't possibly financially threaten, and he knows it. Throughout the entire game, it is very clear he knows it; everything about Peppino's body language is designed to convey one simple message - this guy is as highly strung as a freshly-tuned violin atop the Empire State building. This makes him easy to relate to for most people living in the 21st century. Unless the player is a level-die gamer, your journey through the Pizza Tower will almost certainly see poor Peppino subjected to violent abuse, both mental and physical. The archetypes of a nervous chef and a victimized small business owner are further combined with the sympathy you should naturally feel for Peppino when he gets beaten down by the Tower because of your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. All of this makes it that much more satisfying when Peppino finally snaps. "What did he mean by this?" I'm not going to tell you. This is an answer you'll need to find for yourself. Play Pizza Tower.
