Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night. A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, hunted by cops and the mob, Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Max Payne is a relentless story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting to clear his name while struggling to uncover the truth about his slain family amongst a myriad of plot-twists and twisted thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard. The groundbreaking original cinematic action-shooter, Max Payne introduced the concept of Bullet Time® in videogames. Through its stylish slow-motion gunplay combined with a dark and twisted story, Max Payne redefined the action-shooter genre.
I love this game but its a broken piece of ♥♥♥♥ on PC. I needed to go into the code to even get the game to start and then download something to get the cutscenes to have sound and then half way through i become invincible and fix that though the developer console. I was able to fix almost every problem except the fact i kept getting stuck to the game geometry which made the game difficult especially in the damn dream sequences.
Max Payne isn't just a third-person shooter; it’s pure playable hard-boiled noir. Diving sideways in slow-motion while unloading dual Berettas never loses its thrill, even decades later. The gritty graphic-novel cutscenes, haunting internal monologues, and freezing NYC backdrop build a mood that few games have ever matched. A timeless classic.
Fun gameplay and story for 2001. The PC port is ♥♥♥♥ because Rockstar doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about their old games on steam, same as Bully and Manhunt, but with a fix it's a great game.
