On the 18th day of the 1st island, I sailed away

On the 18th day of the 1st island, I sailed away. It was pretty easy. On the 25th day of the 2nd island, I sailed away. Again, those mindless wretches were no match for my military genius. On the 30th day of the 3rd island, I sailed away. Thanks to my loyal knights' heroic efforts. On the 38th day of the 4th island, I sailed away with a heavy heart. I tried to ignore screams as the demonic invasion wiped my people out. On the 20th day of the 5th island, The Burning Legion arrived. And brought doom and destruction with them. I stood my ground and defended my kingdom to no avail. At long last, the legion got what it desired the most. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ golden crown! 10/10 Would never play again. But I got my money's worth.

I do recommend but READ BELOW

I do recommend but READ BELOW. All of the 'Kingdom' games are the exact same game, except each new one adds a tiny bit more (like a DLC). In no way at all does this game, nor kingdom 2 Crowns (the newest one), need to be a stand alone game - AT ALL. There was a promise that all future DLC for the games would be free, so rather than make the new features as a DLC, they decided to sell them as a completely new game to gain more profit. It's a complete scam and this type of sales tactic taints the whole DLC industry (imo). Now, with that out of the way, I really do love the Kingdom games. I was really surprised at how much can be done with only 3 keys to operate the game (left, right, and down arrows). I thought the music was pretty good and the game concept is original to me. 40 hours of gameplay and I still play it on occasion. I played the free flash version on Newgrounds, and I even downloaded the game code from GitHub, and I must say that they did a great job of polishing the flash game into a real PC game - big difference. I'm going to click that I recommend this game because it is good - but I rather recommend that you buy the last iteration Kingdom: Two Crowns because it has everything that the other two have (including this one) but it adds the last DLC too (basically). I just didn't buy Two Crowns because I didn't see the value now that I own this one, so my review is written here instead. One last thing: I am sad that the textures are not visible in the file folders, because one thing that would make this game TWICE as good, would be the option to MOD the textures. If the game Devs can't even MOD their own textures between games, at least let me do it myself. TY

I did it

I did it. I beat the game. So now I can say: Don't buy this game. It's ultimately disappointing. It's a nightmarishly dull gameplay loop. You play on different "islands" but they're all the same. It's the same gameplay. You build a ship that takes a painfully long amount of time to launch, and then you sail off, and then it crashes and you start over again. And once you discover the winning build order/combination, you just do that over. and over. and over. Most games introduce new enemies or new conditions as you progress to shake things up. Not in this game! You just play the same. exact. game. for 30 hours. You also get 'better' by being more efficient, but there's not really a way to go 'faster.' You can't 'rush.' You just sit there, running left, then right, then left, then right. There's no story. It's not a generous game, in terms of content. (Only one island type, one enemy set, no real progression, no minimalist story, no stats, no leaderboard.) Don't bother. The first game was short and honestly minimalistic. This game is long and fakely minimalist. This was maybe literally the least satisfying thirty hours I've ever spent of my life, and I regret spending the time. --- EDIT: If you're looking for artsy minimalism, play Gorogoa. If you're looking for a tower defense, play Dungeon of the Endless. If you want to explore strange and beautiful lands, play The Banner Saga. Just don't commit to the thirty+ slow-paced hours it takes to learn to beat the final island in this game. There's not even a 'You Saved the Realm!' banner at the end, so it's ultimately a rather thankless toiling on your part.
