I'm not gonna lie the first one was more interesting and more of a story driven adventure, this one goes for a sort of psuedo sandbox setup that at times seems neat. There are plenty of things to do and if you are ok with mostly guiding your own adventure or if you have a group that helps to keep things interesting. If that sounds good to you then this game can actually be a good bit of fun, otherwise I would recommend trying the first game.
I bought this game because I enjoyed playing the first one. Sadly, it does not live up to its predecessor in every aspects IMO. I think my biggest complaint is the insane grindy gameplay. If you want to upgrade a building, do X quest N number of times. If you want to improve your skills, repeat X mission 10+ times so on and so forth. The sense of progression is completely gone as well. All missions are instances. I think they wanted to give the game a more immense multi-player experience. They have also done a very poor job on mission design in which some missions are just frustrating to do.
Got the game as a gift we planned to play as multiplayer not local play. Online support apparently ended in 2020 it still shows up in the ad for the game and as a feature. Do not buy this game if you are looking to play with your friends who are not local.
