Without a doubt my favorite PC game ever
Without a doubt my favorite PC game ever. Homeworld games are works of art. I still remember all the jobs I lost and exams I failed because of the multiplayer alone. Now I have a wife and a son. I am going to miss them.

Let me start by stating this:
Let me start by stating this: - I did not play the original games, so my review comes untainted by fandom both possitive and negative. OVERVIEW: At this time the game is best enjoyed single player. The campaign in HW1 Remastered is amazing and I expect HW2R's to be great as well. The story, cinematics, music and atmosphere all get 10/10 CONTROLS: Some players have a little trouble getting used to the controls and while this is in part due to the fully 3d nature of the game I also feel it is in part down to the developers descision to keep the old control system rather than improving upon it. That said, everything works nicely and I found everythign easy to get used to. 8/10 GRAPHICS: The game is simply stunning close up, ships are well detailed, docking ships looks awesome, the enviroments and FX are great. Could they be better.. Probably.. Are they good enough, definitly. 9/10 MULTIPLAYER: PvP is still in beta, so it is hard to judge, but so far things seem real good. There are objectives and that is something I find very interesting as it is unheard of in other PvP games I play. AI is skilled enough for skirmish games and will give you a real run for your money, Changing tactics from game to game and really testing you. Only real issue is possibly balancing still needs to be done on some units. But hey, this is something completely new to the franchise so it was always going to take time. There is however no co-op campaign.. Something I find sorely lacking as it is my prefered game mode ussually. 7/10 OVERALL: An exellent game, I highly recommed it to anyone who loves, RTS, sci-fi, or who is just looking to try something new or find a great story to be immersed in. 9/10

Exactly what I hoped for
Homeworld 1 is a classic for its well done story and deep mechanics, and it's inclusion to this pack alone makes it a good buy. The remasters on the other hand are dogged by problems found in Homeworld 2 as they use the same engine, and are ok but still inferior games to the first. The reasons are complex, but boil down to the tactical depth you could achieve in HW1 thanks to the mechanics and physics system they employed to model ship to ship combat. For example, fighters have a impressive amount of maneuverability due to their speed and size, so any ship such as a frigate built to shoot at larger ships will have a hard time hitting them when the figher is at full speed. However when stationary they're sitting ducks and ANY weapon can easily hit them, which is more often than nought when they require refueling after some time in combat, or docking to get across the larger maps. HW2 and the remakes dump this for a simpler probability and RNG based system when calculating if a shot hits, so that the same frigate would find it difficult to hit a fighter even if it was completely stationary, simply because it's classified as a fighter. Couple this with the removal of refueling, higher damage weapons that'll see your fleet destroyed and remade multiple times per mission, as well as sometime broken trigers and mechanics in singleplayer (due to being ported), and it becomes clearer why Homeworld 1 is considered a classic and it's sequels (and remasters) haven't earned nearly as much praise from players. Buy it if you're really keen for a great (if old looking) RTS that set the standard back in 1999, otherwise wait for a sale.
