This standalone retail title spans three distinct stories, interwoven to create one of the most unique and engaging single-player experiences of this generation. Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. The Action, Adventure, Multiplayer mix is what kept me playing; Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition knows what it wants to be. On paper it is PLEASE NOTE: Microsoft no longer supports creating Games for Windows-LIVE, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition leans hard into Action, Adventure, Multiplayer, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — PLEASE NOTE: Microsoft no longer supports creating Games for Windows-LIVE — is delivered without too much filler. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Easy recommend at full price.
