I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. The RPG, Survival, Open World mix is what kept me playing; Fallout 4 knows what it wants to be. The pitch — Build a Commonwealth home between radiation storms. — is delivered without too much filler. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. I will be back for another run.

Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. Fallout 4 leans hard into RPG, Survival, Open World, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — Build a Commonwealth home between radiation storms. — is delivered without too much filler. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. Worth it, especially on sale.
