As someone who runs a large sim racing community, and who hosts multiple league racing Tiers on Codemasters F1 games, I feel after 400 hours or so that i'm ready to have my two cents on the game. The game in its natural state, away from multiplayer - it feels great. For what it is (a simcade or whatever people would like to label it as) does a great job at balancing the key components of an F1 car whilst still making it challenging enough to enjoy without it being unbearable. It looks fantastic, and is a whole lot of fun if you like career modes and pushing yourself against the AI. My main issue, and its being prevalent for a couple of years now for me personally, is the sheer lack of care that the Codemasters team put in when listening to feedback for this game, in particular multiplayer. All we want is a game with minimal bugs online, a development team that want to develop both sides of this franchise (online and offline) and a reasonable response rate when members of the F1 community flag any known issues. This is a licensed game, at a premium price. We as consumers deserve more than what is currently being offered. It wouldn't even take much to take this game from its current state, to an absolute standout. I really love this game, and I have been a massive supporter of Codemasters for years and years. I'd be willing to offer any help or advice to take the game to where it can and should be. But please, for the love of Maldonado - listen to us before you start to lose a large percentage of those that play this game for its entire life, not just the first 2 months. Please.
Doesn't mention anywhere that it has Denuvo. Beware that if your internet connection ever drops out and you want to play a quick offline race, good luck with that. The game will lock you out even if you played it hours earlier if you temporarily aren't connected to the internet. It's sad how corporate decisions like these ruin entire games.
Miles better than F1 2017. Graphics are better, cars handle better, & I can still tell Jeff to shut up. Only downside to this game is it's lack of ability to flip off AI Drivers as they get within range to throw you off the track. Will probably update this review once I make it half way through the career season. Update: After reaching halfway through the season and being brutally rejected by Red Bull Racing, not only breaking my heart but my driver's legs as I speared into Max Verstappen, I find myself doing longer and longer races. The strategy of deciding when to pit, what engine mode to run on & working out how to shave seconds off my lap time keep me invested in this, some may argue that driving around the same circuit for 40 minutes at a time might be a bit too much, but when the cars handle the way they do, the AI force you to defend and attack for position, and Jeff starts to become your spirit animal, you find that those 40 minutes just fly by. The game runs extremely well, the AI are competent, Mclaren break down in 90% of the races & Hulkenberg tried to kill me on turn one in Spa, so it's very realistic making for a highly enjoyable F1 game.
