I'm a fan of Shooters. I'm a fan of post-apocalyptic games. I've played and enjoyed thoroughly Dying Light. I did not enjoy this game. You'll spend most of your time running through and empty forest to get to an area, which all look the same. After playing for 7.6 hours, I still have not enjoyed any of it. This game suffers immensely from downtime syndrome. Your inventory is full within a very short time, but you don't want to go back to town, because you know you'd be running for 15 minutes to get there, unload and come back. Instead, after a couple minutes, you start destroying everything you find and spend most of your time running/managing your inventory. And don't get me started on the repair quests. Every time you get to a workbench/revive checkpoint/future fast-travel point, you get a quest to pick up random items around the world to get the components, then you need to get to the thing you want to repair and then you repair it (sometimes several times to level them up). The problem? If you have several of those quests that require the same item, like a toaster, and you pick up a toaster, the game chooses for you which quest is going to get completed. Wanted that fast-travel station so you don't have to run for 5 minutes in an empty forest? Sorry, you have to upgrade this workbench and this other workbench and also this revive checkpoint first. Good luck finding those 12 total toasters you need, which are randomly generated. Survival games should not be about stacking up inconveniences for the player. Desolate does exactly that and it shows. AS it stands, I cannot recommend this game.
Not too sure why I keep falling for these types of games. It's your generic, early access survival game. Combat is clunky, enemies are broken, resources are stupidly scarce. I would not buy it, if I could refund it I would.
