I'm really only writing this in reaction to the current (negative) top review

I'm really only writing this in reaction to the current (negative) top review. I got the Utopia ending on my first playthrough, so I genuinely don't understand the complaints about keeping parameters balanced (I ignored them almost entirely!) or decisions not mattering. Just read the descriptions and you'll be fine.

One of my best buys this year

This game, along with Papers, Please, taught me something deeply profound and depressing about myself: I love games about paperwork. Death and Taxes lacks the overbearing urgency and deep depression of Papers, Please, however; while the decisions you make are far more overt in that rather than permitting or denying someone a chance at survival you are deciding outright whether they live or die, you are allowed to do so at your own pace, and your potential victims are not standing before your desk, begging you to consider their families. In fact, you can delay your decision as long as you please, playing with the widgets you can buy for your desk. Listen to the radio while you incessantly spin a fidget spinner. Nobody cares. Time means nothing here. The humor is quiet, but solid. The music is charming, but mostly subtle. The replay value is there, at least for me. I intend to do my best to complete the full list of achievements--which isn't something I normally do--because Death and Taxes has completely charmed me.
