This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. If Roguelike, Deckbuilder, Tactics is your thing, Balatro delivers it without much filler. On paper it is Poker deckbuilding that ate 2024, one joker at a time., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Worth it, especially on sale.

A friend recommended it and I owe them one. Balatro wears its Roguelike, Deckbuilder, Tactics influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. On paper it is Poker deckbuilding that ate 2024, one joker at a time., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Easy recommend at full price.
