Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED leans hard into Action, Multiplayer, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. It helps that the premise (Then, there was fire. Re-experience the critically acclaimed, genre-defining) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. I will be back for another run.
This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. The Action, Multiplayer mix is what kept me playing; DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED knows what it wants to be. It helps that the premise (Then, there was fire. Re-experience the critically acclaimed, genre-defining) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. Performance was solid on my machine, no crashes across a full playthrough. Easy recommend at full price.
I bounced off it twice before finally giving up. Fans of Action, Multiplayer will recognise the pieces, though DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED never quite assembles them. The idea (Then, there was fire. Re-experience the critically acclaimed, genre-defining) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. Too many systems are introduced and then abandoned. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Try before you buy.
