About Cuphead

Cuphead is 1930s cartoons as a run-and-gun boss rush — hand-inked, jazz-scored, and merciless in the most loving way.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Cuphead wears its Platformer, Action, Indie influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. On paper it is 1930s animation come to life, one brutal boss at a time., and for once the game mostly lives up to that. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.

A friend recommended it and I owe them one

A friend recommended it and I owe them one. Cuphead wears its Platformer, Action, Indie influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (1930s animation come to life, one brutal boss at a time.) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Easy recommend at full price.
