Hard to put down
Honestly, saying Sea of Thieves is better is unfair to this game, mostly because they are completely different games. In SoT, you explore and find treasure while fighting evil skeletons and sea creatures, as long as some naval pvp. This game focuses way more on the naval part, going into depth with the cannons, repairing, and teamwork between captain and crew, as well as between ship to ship. This game is also a lot less hardcore than Sea of Thieves. In that game you have to spend a half hour getting supplies for your one ship. Also, if you sink you lose all your loot. It discourages more ballsy plays where a smaller ship fights a bigger one. In this game you jump right in with nothing to lose (except K/D I guess). It really makes plays where you are in a smaller gunboat against multi-story ships with tons of cannons. As soon as that tutorial is done and you've joined a game, the action starts. Now for some cons: A few bugs, such as the bots T-Posing (only one I've found so far, but others have reported more things). The bigger con is the community. 6 hours in and I've heard more n-words than my vacation in Florida last year. As a white guy, this doesn't directly affect me, but once a guy with a Chinese name joined as our captain and a few people already called him a "♥♥♥♥♥" and the N-Word. Most people do actually communicate with each other as a crew, and some even roleplay as pirates or navy (lol). It's just those sad few that ruin it. All in all, fun game that's worth the price, but the community and moderation is quite bad.

They could abandon this game right now and it would still be more complete than half the garbage on Steam. Early Access done right! UPDATE: The devs should have abandoned it shortly after 2018. Then again if you're still playing this in 2023, you got bigger issues than the state of this game.
