In reality I would give this a sideways thumb, as technically it is quite impressive, but in terms of whether or not it holds up to the other two Bioshock games (and I am one of those people for whom Bioshock 2 was actually the best in the series, particularly with the Minerva's Den DLC) then no, it is by far the worst game in the series. Despite being feted at launch I do not think the years have been kins to this game. The DLC in particular was just awful, like the worst kind of fan fiction where they had to try and tie everything together between Rapture and Columbia - it just came across as juvenile. And they retconned what I thought was the best part of Infinite - the recognition that revolution is not a simple case of good versus bad, there are many shades of grey and showing Daisy Fitzroy as brutally violent in her own right was one of the most mature and nuanced elements in the whole game - but they had to retcon that out of existence in Burial at Sea. I lost all respect for the team after that. As a colourful shooter it is quite enjoyable, but for me, it is not a game I ever want to revisit and it soured the whole Bioshock series - like the terrible Matrix film sequels.
