I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me
I wanted to love this, but it never quite got its hooks into me. Fans of Action, Adventure, MMO will recognise the pieces, though ARK: Survival Ascended never quite assembles them. It advertises ARK is reimagined from the ground-up into the next-generation of video game; what you get is a thinner version of that. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. There is more content here than the price suggests. Try before you buy.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. ARK: Survival Ascended leans hard into Action, Adventure, MMO, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. It helps that the premise (ARK is reimagined from the ground-up into the next-generation of video game) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Easy recommend at full price.
