Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks

Picked this up on a whim and ended up playing it every evening for two weeks. A Date with Death wears its Sim influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Fight against & romance the one hunting for your soul in A Date with Death) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. I will be back for another run.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. A Date with Death wears its Sim influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. The pitch — Fight against & romance the one hunting for your soul in A Date with Death — is delivered without too much filler. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.

I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. A Date with Death leans hard into Sim, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. The pitch — Fight against & romance the one hunting for your soul in A Date with Death — is delivered without too much filler.
