Not a bad game, just not one I can recommend without caveats

Not a bad game, just not one I can recommend without caveats. Fans of Cozy, Strategy, Multiplayer will recognise the pieces, though Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game never quite assembles them. It advertises Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game is an online DBG which contains a PVE mode; what you get is a thinner version of that. Too many systems are introduced and then abandoned. It runs well on a mid-range rig, though the later areas get busy. Try before you buy.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game leans hard into Cozy, Strategy, Multiplayer, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. On paper it is Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game is an online DBG which contains a PVE mode, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. The difficulty curve is gentle at first and then asks more of you, which felt right. There is more content here than the price suggests. Worth it, especially on sale.

This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday

This one kept creeping back into my thoughts during the workday. Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game wears its Cozy, Strategy, Multiplayer influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. It helps that the premise (Yi Xian: The Cultivation Card Game is an online DBG which contains a PVE mode) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Pacing is generous, checkpoints are fair, and the whole thing respects your time. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
