Wonderful little adventure game by Amanita Design
Wonderful little adventure game by Amanita Design. Its basically a small picture book with several scenes that you can inject objects and characters into, to see what is happening, and determine the outcome. So instead of trying endless combinations or clicking every pixel as in some adventure games, Pilgrims is more playing with what you got to make decisions. Some of those decisions are quite bizarre though. Like angering an old hag so much her eyes go ablaze and after throwing water into her face, seeing her crawl across the floor with empty sockets... Great stuff! I finished one run in 80minutes and I got roughly half the available cards/decisions. So I guess its about 3hrs to see everything. Overall a pretty fun little gem and as charming as is expected from Amanita.

A charming little game that puts "play" back in "gameplay."
A charming little game that puts "play" back in "gameplay." Amanita Design has always had a soft spot for unnecessary elements in games, from random clickable creatures to small events you can orchestrate in Samorost 3 for achievements. Here, the studio takes it to another level: it's hard to fail Pilgrims, but the point is not to finish the game, but rather to have fun with various combinations of items and events. The result is unassuming and sweet. The gameplay is perfectly supported by the theme of Slavic folklore—many folk tales revolve around the ingenuity of common people, so outwitting a bear with a rope and a shroom is exactly fitting for the theme. As usual for Amanita, the game is non-verbal, showing all interactions with small animations. It's unexpensive, short, and will make an evening of yours brighter. What else is there to ask for?

Worth every hour
Amanita Design has released Pilgrims, finally a game that an average gamer can complete in a short time without the use of any outside resources. No “give the store away because we must” hint system, nothing so obscure that blind luck plays a part, and “everything, everywhere” is only likely to be used because it’s fun to see what silly things happen, and how funny the animations will be. If fact it seems the objective of Pilgrims is really neither to complete the game, nor to solve the puzzles; it’s to obtain the 45 achievements. Finishing a play-through takes you directly to a listing of missed achievements, and a “Play Again” selection. The pictures for each achievement show pretty much everything that must be done, and combined with the description many (most?) gamers may feel that this Amanita game is in fact too easy. (Two hours represents about one and three-quarters games. The second was the full game, and took about 15 minutes when I understand the "process".) Pilgrims is cute and it’s fun and it has hilarious graphics. As soon as it has a discount price it might be worth acquiring.
