So why don't them speak English to each other? Don't be confused, this isn't important. The way it shows the story and the story itself is really good. It's creative, not just using a box or standing sketch to present the words and thoughts of the characters. Instead of giving me imaginations, this game make me think about the reality. I think it is the best visual novel I've read. However, I'm not pretty sure that you can understand this story if you did't know much about the two countries in the story (and the relationship between them). I'm not a native speaker, if this comment make you confused, please leave a comment.
This story is sooooo sweet!! I doubt many non-Chinese speaker will come to this page since there's no English localization yet, but in case you are wondering: This is a visual novel about a boy from China and a girl from rural Japan getting to know each other in 1980s Tokyo. I haven't gotten very far into the story yet, but the way the protagonists communicate with simple gestures, unable to understand each other's language and thus producing lovely and comedic moments, reminds me of a typical immigrant story. If this game is translated into English, some of the charm might be literally lost in translation. But even then, I hope more people can experience it.
I will be honest I was baited by its premise and expected a cheesy love story but this game completely blew my expectations. Despite some plot holes this game has so many plus going for it. The visual representation is gorgeous. so much goes into fleshing out each character. I would argue there is no side characters in this story as each character has his or her backstory explored and compared. the Japanese voice actors are excellent as always but I am really impressed by the Chinese voices especially 江先生 who has to juggle between Chinese and Japanese and crappy Japanese. story is extremely heartwarming and most importantly does it without any romance subplot. I feel like since the beginning many visual novels use romance or sex scenes as an easy and cheap way for readers to build an emotional connection with the characters and this story does a beautiful job of without any forced romance. This honestly is much more than I can expect from other visual novels. Highly recommend if you can speak Chinese or Japanese to pick this up.
