I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed
I went in with modest expectations and came out genuinely impressed. OMORI leans hard into Adventure, RPG, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. It helps that the premise (Explore a strange world full of colorful friends and foes. When the time comes) actually shows up in the moment-to-moment play. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Easy recommend at full price.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. OMORI leans hard into Adventure, RPG, and that is exactly the part that worked for me. On paper it is Explore a strange world full of colorful friends and foes. When the time comes, and for once the game mostly lives up to that. It never wastes your time with filler encounters. Checkpoints are frequent enough that a bad run never feels punishing. Easy recommend at full price.
