Selected by the fickle finger of fate, Abe™, floor-waxer first class for RuptureFarms, was catapulted into a life of adventure when he overheard plans by his boss, Molluck the Glukkon™, to turn Abe and his fellow Mudokons into Tasty Treats as part of a last-ditch effort to rescue Molluck's failing meat-packing empire.. . During his escape from RuptureFarms, Abe received a vision from the mysterious Big Face, showing Abe that he must not only rescue his fellow Mudokons, but also protect all of Oddworld's creatures from the predatory Magog Cartel. . After completing arduous Temple trials, and journeying across a wasteland with his friend Elum, Abe was granted the awesome power of the Shrykull. Returning to RuptureFarms, Abe destroyed the foul slaughterhouse, rescued his buddies, and brought down some righteous lightning on top of Molluck's pointy head..
I know this game is generally held in a positive light in the zeitgeist, but imo it's not heralded as the absolute masterpiece it is. Still holds up today; the art style, the mechanics and the themes are all just as relevant and satisfying today as they were THIRTY YEARS AGO. I would be lying if I said there wasn't a touch of 90s jank, but it's more than permissable compared to most other games from the 90s/early 00s. o7 to the 3 poor little dudes I couldn't save. You will be remembered. Can't wait to play Exoddus and then no other Oddworld game ever made lmao.
A Chahi-like cinematic puzzle-platformer that holds up in every way, including the unresponsive crap-shoot controls. A classic one of these… a 7/10 but truly a classic.
I played this when I was like 5 back in the late 90's. Funny how much you remember even though you haven't seen/played it in almost 30 years.
