There is a good game buried in here somewhere
There is a good game buried in here somewhere. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond promises a lot with its Adventure, Action, Metroidvania setup, but the loop wore thin quickly. The idea (Samus' first-person return, nearly a decade in the making.) is there, but the execution never catches up to it. The pacing sags in the middle third and never fully recovers. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. Wait for a deep sale.

It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down
It took an hour to click, and then I could not put it down. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond wears its Adventure, Action, Metroidvania influences on its sleeve, and it mostly works. The pitch — Samus' first-person return, nearly a decade in the making. — is delivered without too much filler. Short sessions work fine here; I rarely lost progress to a bad checkpoint. The soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter sections. If you are on the fence, give it a shot.
