Actually don't play this if you are mentally unstable, I cried A LOT. Like alot alot. And not even because the game itself is sad but rather because I interpreted alot into what was shown. I don't even think there is one specific plot to get here, you kinda make your own using your own interpretation. Aaaand for me starting with the hill climb it kinda depicted how I imagine suicide to be, with the large white characters depicting Mom(s) looking down upon you, so that led to that reaction. (I'm actually a little embarrassed for this interpretation) On a more neutral note - this was quite the experience. It's beautifully made, doesn't get boring (just maybe a bit tiring where the walk could have been just a little shorter), is short (~90 mins) and kinda explains itself (except for the story as I already touched on). Before the whole crying tirade I was actually really happy; the little flying "birds" felt like they were my friends, boosting each other into the sky. The slides were really fun. The fellow travelers feature was also REALLY cool. Theeeen the jumpscare section with the stupidly loud dragons happened, stealing my scarf (grr) and then the aforementioned hill climb. This was seriously a rollercoaster of emotions. I'd honestly recommend you to experience this little game (buy on sale). Just please be a bit more emotionally stable.
Have you ever met somebody, a complete stranger, and over the course of a confined amount of time found yourself opening up to them? Maybe you were waiting for a bus, perhaps you were traveling via train or plane. Perhaps it started over a comment about their shirt, perhaps they liked your hair or maybe you simply bumped into a each other and for a few hours, maybe even a few days, you found a friend in a place you weren't looking for one to begin with. You spoke to them about your family. About life and loves, shared laughter and maybe a meal--for whatever reason you both simply understood that within this moment you were both safe. You had a friend, a bit of warmth in what should've been a solitary expedition and not a single moment passed that you weren't grateful for it. Hours passed, perhaps less or perhaps more...maybe even days? Maybe you traded numbers or perhaps you couldn't? Separated in a crowd, splitting for a different terminal--maybe you both were even just afraid to spoil the moment? Either way, time and circumstance just as easily as it brought you two together saw fit that you two must be apart once more. Do you remember their name? Their face? Even if you don't I'll bet you can remember the moments--you remember the warmth and the glow; the jokes, the philosophical debates and the commentary. The sound of their chuckle is like a distant song to you, their smile a fading photograph in the depths of your mind. The older you get, the more time passes, the more all of that seems to have been a dream. Fleeting, a soft ache knowing that it can never be repeated but...it never fails to make you smile. That is Journey. That is the game. Ankarath, wherever you are, thank you for walking with me. May the winds ever be at your back.
