About Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor's house to figure out what horrible secrets he's hiding in the basement. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Really enjoying climbing through that backyard window? Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? There'll be cameras there soon. Trying to escape? The Neighbor will find a shortcut and catch you. Suspenseful horror gameplay that focuses on sneaking around your neighbor's house . Constantly evolving experience where the Neighbor's AI counters your moves, and learns from what you do . Sandbox-style gameplay with plenty of environmental interaction and physics. .

Great ideas, rough execution

There is nothing worse than a game making you feel like an idiot for not understanding what to do or how it works. But to be fair, I don't think the game itself knows what's going on half the time. The first couple encounters with the house are straight forward enough, breaking the player into the madness that is Dr. Seuss's fever dream. Then it just goes off the rails with the size, complexity, and lunacy. This would not be a big issue...except for the main point of the game, which is the neighbor himself and the fact you're under constant stress of not getting caught by his broken and oversensitive AI, which makes doing anything either a game of cat and mouse or borderline impossible. Imagine trying to navigate your way around a maze with trick shot level jumping, unstable stacking puzzles, and a hundred hidden switches and keys while constantly walking through glue and hearing bumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbumbum nonstop...and you mess up, get caught, thrown out of the house, have to find your way back to that part of the house, and figure out how to proceed. Rinse/repeat. That is this game. There are some segments in between dealing with the house that break up the gameplay a bit but follow a similar trend to the rest of the game with their own sets of issues. Which all leads to an ending that, in my opinion, feels like someone kicked you to the ground and laughed about it. The best way I can sum the game up is this: Creative but infuriatingly and fundamentally flawed. This was not fun to play and I found nothing of significance to take away here.

Wait for a sale

This game had such an interesting concept in the first 2 alphas. An AI that learns from you and adjusted to your playstyle seemed amazing, especially since this is an indie game. Now it is just youtube bait, and another steam cashgrab. There are so many bugs and unpolished mechanics that it simply isn't worth $30 now. However I did like the artstyle and what little of a soundtrack is there is nice. I might buy it again if it goes on sale, but for now im getting a refund. Goodbye neighbour. UPDATE DECEMBER 2020: It's still a buggy mess. Such a shame.

Act 1..okey, little bit short

Act 1..okey, little bit short Act 2..hm, that’s pretty good Act 3..yeah, we’ve seen all of it, something new? END OF THE GAME W..What? Really? The game is good, takes like only 3 hours to complete. The thing that pisses me of is that there are some really important things from past versions or trailer that aren’t in the game, so the story does’t fit what the developers were showing us since pre-alpha. Is it worth the money? For me it is no. Not complete story. You don’t find out what is in the basement, which is said to be the game goal. You don’t know who the shadow is. You don’t even know who you are, your relationship with neighbor and so on. I’m dissapointed :( *Edit Actually not that much, but still disappointed. I’ve played through all the versions and it kinda makes sense but still. Since it is a full release all answers should be straight in the game. Some things are still not answered. And there is one thing that pisses me off so much! They keep adding new stuff to the game. Do you remember those empty rooms in act 3? Now they have furniture (from the act 1 and 2)..it makes sense since the act 3 is just a dream, but why the hell they add completely new stuff..such as Neighbor’s family photo! NEVER SEEN BEFORE! So this is my opinion 2 weeks after game release. But I’m not complaining, I’m a HN YouTuber, I need new stuff in the game :D
