Ghost of a Tale is an action-RPG game in which you play as Tilo, a mouse and minstrel caught up in a perilous adventure. The game takes place in a medieval world populated only by animals, and puts an emphasis on immersion and exploration. It features stealth elements, disguises, conversations with allies and enemies, and quests. You’ll be able to explore the secrets of Dwindling Heights Keep and navigate its dangers. Tilo is not much of a fighter, so stealth and nimbleness are your allies when confronted with enemies twice your size. Talk to the characters you meet and leave no stone unturned in your quest to find Merra, your true love….About the team:. Ghost of a Tale has been developed by a very small team. Lionel "Seith" Gallat is its creator, responsible for 90% of the art, design and coding. Paul Gardner is the game's writer and an experienced game designer. Cyrille Paulhiac does coding and develops tools. The game's orchestral score is composed by Mathieu Alvado and Jeremiah Pena, while Tilo's songs are written and arranged by Containher. Sound design is by Nicolas Titeux. Jerome Jacinto brings his expertise as an illustrator to the game's 2D art.
Ghost of a Tale is a mix of roleplaying, stealth and adventure. To get the negative things out of the way first: It's repetitive. For the most part quests send you to fetch items or talk with somebody which leads to you travelling along the exact same paths over and over again + the ending isn't what I'd call satisfying That said... from a visual aspect the game is just stunning and Tilo - the protagonist - is just adorable, LOOK AT HIM. The world while being rather small is beautifully designed and you'll find something in each and every corner. You'll probably find yourself wanting to hit the screenshot button over and over again. While this may not be the best game to binge through, it's just fun if you want to relax for a few hours at a time.
I did not expect this. Really. I was not prepared. I assumed it was an OK game, but at this moment it stands on top as one of the best games in 2018 for PC. What we got is an old school experience with its own style. It is a stealth exploration adventure. It has its own unique mechanics, but I can see it draws inspiration from Gothic series in the way of exploring. Also in the level architecture it looks up to Dark Souls and the way they connected their world, with lots of shortcuts, hidden areas and "a-ha" moments. But it brings its own stuff to the table also. Unique lore in video games, a story that keeps you guessing, a set of characters that are intresting to talk to. Quests are in the tone of the game, very logical and nicely connected between each other. And fun also! Graphics are stunning, and the quality of animations is like looking at a Pixar cartoon. It lacks voice acting and its a bit rough around the edges when it comes to performance. Also, a must mention is that there is no fighting in this game (if you dont count knocking down enemies and 5 spider encounters). So, if you are looking for some indepth skill system, dialouge branching, fighting system, different endings, crazy boss fights - then skip this title. BUT, if you want to taste a little bit of that "old school" magic dressed in a new suit, I say go for it. You will get a really lovely title, created by the people who love video games from the bottom of their hearts. You can see that from miles away.
My teenage daughter and I have just finished the game. I want to thank the developers for giving her and I so many hours of great memories together.
