Do NOT buy if you use AMD graphics cards, the game is filled with black boxes everywhere and the devs don't care. Last update: 2238 days ago, clearly they stopped updating this game and if you want to play this game as someone who uses AMD then you would be forced to downgrade to old drivers which can cause issues with newer games.
This is a port of Afternoon of Darness, the PSP re-release of Disgaea, so it has all the extra content from that, but not the extra content from Disgaea DS. I think the game still holds up today, but this is the kind of game you're only going to get the most out of if you're into obsessive grinding and stat and equipment optimization. The post-game can easily eclipse the main story in play-time and most of that is going to be finding new ways to make various numbers go up faster and faster. One issue I have though is that XP is only gained from kills, which can make pure healers and utility characters like thieves a pain in the ass to level up.
Overall: 3/5 Competent The original Disgaea has six versions. 1. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (PS2) 2. Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (PSP) 3. Disgaea DS (DS) 4. Disgaea PC (Steam) 5. Disgaea 1 Complete (PS4, Switch) 6. Disgaea 1 Complete (iOS, Android) Disgaea PC is nearly identical in content to Disgaea DS with the exception that Prinny Commentary and the overhead map are omitted, and the extra recruitable characters do not all have their proper cutscenes. Disgaea 1 Complete has a few new bonus characters and other minor changes, but also overhauls the graphics and, consequently, makes confusing changes. The mobile version is further enhanced with autobattle, battle speed settings, automatically repeating battles, and a convenient menu for the hub area instead of having to walk around. For the best, vaguely-accurate-to-the-original game experience, play Disgaea PC. For the most content and a drastically reduced grind, play Disgaea 1 Complete on mobile.
