I booted this up expecting a cute little forest romp. Five minutes later, I’m emotionally attached to a child and being hunted by something that looks like a troll crossed with my sleep paralysis demon. Visually? Gorgeous. Like a Studio Ghibli film fell into a vat of Scandinavian trauma. Soundtrack? Haunting. Like lullabies sung by a ghost who regrets their life choices. Gameplay? Mostly me running, hiding, and whispering “no no no nope nope nope” out loud. The story is surprisingly touching. I left emotionally damaged but in a good way.
Best game I've played in a few years. The mythology throughout is a joy to experience. What an emotional journey. 10/10 also great music. Made me cry several times
I was on the fence of whether to thumb this down. It's a beautiful game storywise and visually BUT there's just a bit too much of tedious game play like where your hand is cramping from doing the same frustrating thing over and over trying to memorize what to do and when to do it to an excess. To make it worse the character is slow and clunky to control, and you can only can get hit once and then have to start all over. The wonky depth perception and forced camera angles are a pain also. I really do like the game and wanted to trudge on but it's just going over the line of being fun and is now annoying by the time you get to the forest witch. Kind of bummed to give it up but I guess I'll leave it to gamers with more patience/skill than me. Maybe if they add a casual setting for older gamers and kids I'll come back to it.
