Post Review Update: To those commenting this was a spin-off, I understand that, but to play this game and understand what is going on, you would have to have played the first Alan Wake. So if basing the difference in game quality alone, that most people would have played the first Alan Wake and would have been expecting the same level of quality. As always, criticism is welcomed. "The first Alan Wake game was like reading a good Stephen King novel, whereas this game feels like watching a bad Stephen King "Made for TV" special"

Worth every hour
I was told to not care about American Nightmare, especially since it's mostly combat heavy, and had been told it wasn't canon. I love the first Alan Wake's writing, not its combat. Long-story-short, the combat was actually fun. Much more responsive, dispelling darkness takes far less time, way cooler weapons to shred into taken. Also this game is ABSOLUTELY canon. This is set in the Dark Place and it was one of Wake's failed attempts to write himself out of it. Not sure how so many people failed to pick up on that, especially with the Night Springs host epilogue and how the event is dressed Barry bookends.
