Once upon a time, back when the game was still new, I bought a lifetime membership for a very steep price. Yet, everytime i have tried to log back in, it seems this company continues to pretend as if it never existed. I guess lifetime has a different definition of a company like this.
I started playing back during beta and really enjoyed the game. It wasn't perfect, but it was fun and the developers actually seemed to care about the views and opinions of the players. Since then the developer has been bought and sold a few times resulting in current ownership who seems to be focused on monetizing everything to the extreme. Don't get me wrong, I have spent a ton of money on this game int he past. I'm a lifetime member and I have more ships than I can count many of them premium. This was before they went to the extreme which started with the introduction of Lottery Boxes (gambling for children), expanded into Mudds Market and now the best ships cost obscenely high amounts of money for a video game. In the past you could pick up great premium ships for $20-30 but now they cost 5-10x that amount which to me is absolutely insane. A I am a lifetime subscriber who has been playing since beta and over that time has purchased large numbers of reasonably priced items in the game, I'd be surprised if that total hasn't added up to a couple grand over the years. Unfortunately, their pricing insanity has driven me away from the game completely.
If you're an older gamer or just someone that really enjoys the WoW style of MMO, then this game isn't too bad. For everyone else, it's a clunky, bloated, menu-driven WoW clone with a terrible UI. Getting to create your own ship and crew is fun, but putting that ship out onto the water quickly sucks all of the joy out of the game as you fumble with completely opaque controls, unforgiving menus, and unsatisfying skills/attributes. I've tried to start playing the game several times, and have sunk a fair amount of time into the opening sections of the game. I'm baffled that this game is being kept alive, and that this is the biggest Star Trek gaming experience I can get in 2026.
