About SpellForce 3 Reforced

SpellForce 3 - The perfect blend between RTS and RPG! It is the year 518. The rebellion of the renegade mages, known as the Mage Wars, has been quashed by the Crown. However, it was a Pyrrhic victory: Whole regions have fallen into anarchy, refugees roam the lands in search of shelter, and a mysterious, deadly plague called the “Bloodburn” has arisen and is spreading rapidly. In times like these people cling to any sign of hope they can find. The Purity of Light, led by a charismatic man called Rondar Lacaine, claims that mages are the source of all misfortune – and that only the second coming of Aonir, the father of all gods, will return Eo to its former splendor. The story takes place before the acclaimed SpellForce: The Order of Dawn. Features:. Innovative Mix: Unique gameplay blending RTS and RPG naturally together . Create & Customize: Create your own hero and choose between distinct skill trees . Build to Fight: Raise your own army and fight epic mass battles . Epic Storyline: Immerse yourself in a rich world - Unravel the secrets behind the current situation in Nortander. Explore Eo, a fully-realized world filled with interesting characters and heart-wrenching stories

Could have been a good game, but warning for those looking for coop:

Could have been a good game, but warning for those looking for coop: Your coop characters are NOT persistent. If you jump in to play with a friend or family member (as my wife and I do) you can only play one of the temporary NPCs from the host's storyline. You cannot bring your own main character in. We only learned this after getting through the prologue, which can take some time and put you past the Steam refund time. If playing your own characters through the co-op multiplayer campaign is important to you, keep this in mind. Our personal experience was disappointingly negative because of this, but otherwise the game appears quite polished. The graphics are beautiful, the skill selection approach in combat gives control without taking away the tension, the RTS elements are nice.

On the edge for this one

On the edge for this one. Absolutely loved Spellforce 1, absolutely hated Spellforce 2. This is somewhere in the middle. Combining party-based RPG and RTS games into one turns out to be quite a difficult task, as, unlike regular troops, characters get stronger and stronger as they get better equipment and higher levels. The first game in the series tried to balance this out by having the RPG heroes not get wildly overpowered, whilst also giving you more powerful RTS units in the form of higher level runes. For whatever reason, this is something that the developers have unlearnt in the third game. Somewhere around midgame, your hero party starts to become more powerful than a full pop-limit worth of troops and it only gets more imbalanced later on. Rather than presenting the player with some sort of challenge that actually requires troops to overcome, the AI simply cheats like crazy, pushing out a mass of troops constantly, to the point where the end-game levels have you literally fight a full screens worth of enemies all the time non-stop - and your group of heroes can do this better than your maxed out army. This gets super tedious really fast to the point where I actually didn't finish the last levels. With that said, the game is still enjoyable until those last levels, especially when you don't have to deal with constant harassment in the strategy portions of it, which is why I give this a thumbs-up.

The "Red Shell" Controversy

The "Red Shell" Controversy In 2018, SpellForce 3 (along with dozens of other popular games like Civilization VI, Kerbal Space Program, and Elder Scrolls Online) used a third-party analytics integration called Red Shell. What it did: It was a "marketing attribution" tool. It tracked whether a user who clicked an ad later bought or played the game by matching anonymized digital fingerprints. Why it was called spyware: Players were angry because it was installed without explicit consent and tracked data outside of the game itself (like browser activity related to ads). The Outcome: Due to the massive community backlash and privacy concerns, the developers of SpellForce 3 (Grimlore Games/THQ Nordic) completely removed Red Shell shortly after the outcry. Current Status (2026) Clean Installation: Current versions of the game, including the standard edition and the SpellForce 3: Reforced update, do not contain Red Shell or any known malicious spyware. Standard Telemetry: Like almost all modern Steam or GOG games, it may still collect basic, anonymous gameplay data (e.g., crash reports or hardware specs) to help the devs fix bugs, but this is standard industry practice and not "spyware" in the traditional sense. Worth a purchase on a key site like ggdeals for 8 dollars. It's kind of like WarCraft 4 in an alternate universe, multiplayer is dead however. Enjoy the game my friends. EDIT: Epic Online Services are DISABLED by default, which is good! People complained about that being intrusive a few years ago. Once again, enjoy the game.
