About the Game. Iron Harvest is a real-time strategy game (RTS) set in the alternate reality of 1920+, just after the end of the Great War. Single player campaign review only: Never rises above okay throughout and mechanics didn't interest me enough to try the online. Infantry, cover and garrisoning buildings seem so pointless they're almost vestigial. Every fight boils down to blobbing up the toughest mechs you can build, maybe supported by a handful of artillery. Also: Extremely jank. I was about 3/4 through the game when I thought "This game would be a bit cooler with some post battle stat screens like old Blizzard games." The next mission I beat had something like that, a player XP progress screen, that had never popped up before. So there's features that just don't work properly. Then there's stuff like floating immortal infantry that get stuck in the air with 3hp, they can't be targeted but still show up on the map. But the crowning moment was when after dragging myself over the finishing line and getting the end cutscene, something bugged out and I was stuck on the title screen with no menus loaded. Just the background animation, had to alt+F4 to get out.
In my opinion, you can look at this game from two perspectives; if you're just looking for a fun time and want to play a really good Campaign, play around in AI Skirmishes and with pals, the game's great and I highly recommend that you pick it up, the narrative and overall story are pretty damn good, the game has an amazing aesthetic and unit designs, and has solid mechanics that are being polished up on regularly However, if you're a Veteran COH 1/2 Player and you're looking for a competitive experience at the same level of complexity; pass on it for now and wait 2-12 Months post-release, then come back and see how you like it, the Devs work pretty fast in making changes and fixing the game, as in 3 Patches in 3 Weeks sort of fast and they have a lot of content they want to push out Post-Launch, so just keep an eye out. EDIT: For those of you who are concerned about the omitted content, i.e Ranked/Co-Op Campaigns, the Devs have made an official statement claiming that stuff is all coming this month, with Co-Op Campaigns coming next week Sept. 7-11; there's a link to the Roadmap in the Comments Section
